Summer or winter, there are many possibilities for sports or cultural entertainment.. Throughout the year you can visit many natural or historic sites in the area, e.g.:

▪ Belianska jaskyňa (Belianské caves) in Tatranská Kotlina (6 km)

▪ Kežmarok Castle (20 km)

▪ Strážky Mansion (Spišská Belá - Strážky 25 km)

▪ Spišska Sobota historic town square (Renaissance and Baroque) (Poprad 35 km)

▪ The World Heritage site of Spišský Hrad (66Km) - one of the largest ensembles of 13th and 14th century military, political and religious buildings in eastern Europe, and its Romanesque and Gothic architecture has remained remarkably intact.

The heritage site has recently been extended to include the historic town-centre of Levoča founded in the 13th and 14th centuries within fortifications. Most of the site has been preserved and it includes the 14th century church of St James with its ten alters of the 15th and 16th centuries, a remarkable collection of polychrome works in the Late Gothic style, including an 18.6 metre high alterpiece by completed around 1510 by Master Paul.

In Ždiar itself, there is the museum Ždiarsky dom, a number of restaurants, bars, post office (with 24hr ATM) and the chance of trip to Poland, only 10km away.

Zrub Zuzana is the ideal base for walks along the ridge of the Spišská Magura or the more challenging peaks in the High and Belianské Tatras. From Spring to Autumn you can admire the beautiful landscape of the region, with its rare or endangered flora and fauna. The area is also a firm favourite for advocates of cyclotourism and more extreme sports such as para-gliding and climbing. Sightseeing flights around the Tatras can be organised at Poprad-Tatry Airport. The thermal waters of Aquacity in Poprad is also a firm favourite, and is open all-year-round..

The largest golf resort in Slovakia is only 12km in Veľká Lomnica. Black Stork is open form April to October, with 3 9-hole courses that can be played in any combination to make a full 18-hole round.

Winter:

Ždiar is well-known as a centre for skiing. 3km by road, or just 500m walk up the hill behind the house and you can ski down to the largest of the resorts, Bachledová dolina - Jezersko including two chairlifts. Resort info pdf live webcam At the end of the day you can ski back down to the house. Strednica (5 km) is one of the best ski resorts for beginners in Slovakia. Strachan (5 km) offers a free lift form the house to the slope. The other resorts can be reached by the free skibus that operates along the main road from Ždiar to Bachledová dolina and back. Every resort has ski hire etc. More demanding skiers can go further afield to the slopes in Tatranská Lomnica or Štrbské Pleso.

For romantics there is the possiblity of horse-pulled sledge rides on the snow-covered Ždiar roads.
